Fascinating Facts!

 

Did you know….

·         Van Morrison was born in Hyndford Street, directly opposite our showroom.  Cyprus Avenue, immortalised in the song of the same name, is only a few hundred metres away

·         The author C.S. Lewis (1898-1963), famous for writing The Chronicles of Narnia, was born in nearby Strandtown

·         The De Beers family, lived in this part of Belfast from 1650.  They belonged to the same family who owned the diamond mines in South Africa

·         The De Beers built the Owen O’ Cork Mill, where Desk Warehouse is based.  The mill is first recorded in the Belfast Towne Book of 1658

·         The bridge on Beersbridge Road was built by the De Beers. It is named in honour of Captain John DE Beers, who drowned trying to cross the Connswater River

·         The footballing colossus, George Best, who was probably east Belfast’s most famous sporting son, was born and raised in the nearby Cregagh Estate
